Battery Contact Springs Manufactured for Industrial Electronics, Medical Devices, and Other High-Tech Applications

As a leading manufacturer of miniature springs and micro wire forms for a wide-range of applications, HyTech can produce your battery contact springs to equally precise specifications. We manufacture standard battery contact coil springs or uniquely customized sizes and configurations to meet the requirements of virtually any standard or specialized electronics devices.

Battery springs are typically made using nickel-coated steel, beryllium copper, and other optimized metals that ensure reliable connectivity and a long service life. However, we can work with many other materials on request. Our company is backed by leading experience in serving many of today’s more advanced applications for electronics devices, including:

  • Medical device electronics
  • Testing and inspection equipment
  • Handheld electronic devices for factory use
  • Various other industrial electronics

Quality-Backed Battery Contact Spring Manufacturer

While relatively simple in construction, battery contact springs perform two crucial roles. First, the spring length and tension are tuned to securely hold batteries in place without damaging the terminals. The more complex role is conducting electrical current from the batteries to the circuit which powers the device.

The spring length and tension determines the force exerted on the battery. That force affects the electrical conductivity, especially in devices that can see surface oxidation on the battery contacts. That’s why the material’s oxidation properties and corrosion resistance are crucial considerations for manufacturing reliable battery contact springs. The material’s suitability for specific soldering processes is another important factor we have to keep in mind.

Materials, Sizes, Specifications – Standard and Custom Battery Springs:

  • Nickel-Coated Music Wire – Most alkaline batteries utilize nickel-plated containers, so compatible nickel-coated contact springs are extremely common. Music wire is a common spring material, with the nickel coating preventing galvanic corrosion and oxidation. Beyond that, nickel coating is an excellent conductor of electricity.
  • Silver-Coated Beryllium Copper – For more specialized battery springs, we may use beryllium copper material with a silver coating. Beryllium copper is one of the strongest copper alloys in addition to being resistant to wear and corrosion. It’s also non-magnetic and non-sparking. Silver coating further enhances the material’s electrical conductivity as well as its thermal properties. The coating also facilitates easy soldering.
  • Other Materials – There are various other metals we can use to manufacture custom battery contact springs to specific requirements. Other common options include carbon spring steel, alloy spring steel, stainless spring steel, copper alloy, nickel alloy.
  • Wire Types – We can produce battery springs using round wire, flat wire, and special section wire.
  • Commonly Stocked Sizes – Standard battery contact sizes of 0.020” (0.5mm) and 0.024” (0.6mm) are the most common. We can also produce custom spring sizes to meet unique specifications.
